Background

In the year 2000 the University of Karlsruhe celebrated its 175th anniversary. Throughout the year, there were many events to celebrate this occasion. The highlight of this series of events was a festive celebration on October 7 in the Brahmssaal of the Convention Center. This final event should feature a computer animation that presents a forthcoming building project that will be done with the help of the federal state Baden-Württemberg. This new building will be an extension to the university library. In the beginning, the requirements for the animation were only very vague, which left much freedom for a storyline. Basically, the animation should just show how the new building is somehow assembled and visualize it in its final state. And of course, it wouldn't be amiss if the whole thing would be somewhat entertaining and funny.
Equipped with this information, the Institut für Betriebs- und Dialogsysteme started the following months to put the project into practice.
